The girls varsity basketball team finished their season with a record of 19 wins and 5 losses. The 19 wins is the second most wins by any team in any sport in River Forest High School history. It is second to the girls basketball record last year of 20 wins and 5 losses. The girls had an amazing year, which included many team and individual highlights. One of the individual highlights came early in the season when Amber Ondo broke the single game 3-pointers made record, previously held by Coach Courtney Quigg. The season began with the team going 4-3, but they then went on a 10 game winning streak, which included winning the WISE Tournament for the third consecutive year at North Newton on December 28, 2016. After a tough road loss to Hebron, the ladies won their final 4 games heading into the sectional. Their motto this year was “Defend Our Home” and they did just that heading into the sectional. The 4 regular season losses all came on the road. The sectional, which was hosted at River Forest High School, began with a win over Whiting in the semi-final game. This set up a rematch of last year’s sectional championship game against bitter rival Bishop Noll. The ladies ended up falling to the Lady Warriors 59-58 in one of the finest high school basketball games. This was not the way it was envisioned to end, but these girls fought hard to the very end. Winning 39 games in 2 years … quite a feat. We are all proud of the Lady Ingots basketball program. INGOT PRIDE!
